Simons versus Slimane-Paris Fashion Week

Two great iconic fashion designers pitted each other in Paris Fashion Week with splashier debut one after the other. Fashion buzz always have the eye on both of them as they were preparing for more hallowed houses: Saint Laurent and Dior from last many weeks. In fashion history it was the biggest “face-off” by two fashion designers who were staging ready to wear collection in respect of changing fashion trends for many years. Simon and Slimane were mocked up with bold headlines of “Designers Faced-off” in many magazines.  Raf Simons debut first ever women’s ready to wear collection in Paris Fashion Week for the house of Dior after a renowned couture collection for men. Hedi Slimane, after wildly influential slimmed suits for men, had debut first runway show for Saint Laurent two days after the Simon’s debut.
Mr. Simons Took First Approach in Paris Fashion Week
His show was held in white cube at Hotel National des Invalides near to Rodin Museum, a site for recent Dior shows. White carpets, bright lighting and pastel-curtained windows were making the site more adorable. Before the show, Simons told that his collection is aesthetic and beyond embracing the sensual, feminine and emotional with which he had been associated.
Director of Fashion Institute of Technology Museum, Valerie Steele, was invited as guest in show who appreciated Simons and said that he is the inspired choice of Dior who is perfect for “A” line, “H” line and “Y’ line. Before Simons, company was narrowly focusing only on cosmetics and lucrative accessories. Mr. Simons sought to be break free of past and his clothes were of more freedom with new shapes jackets based on tuxedo, combination of pastel and electric colors and long coats that day. Through short dresses he conveyed sexual notion.
Show was well received by reviewers with full anticipation and lucrative responses. Chief executive of Dior looked very excited and passionate. Immediately after the show, retailers started making calls for purists of collection who had never carried Dior’s line before it. Anyway, critics said that he understood vision of Christian Dior and interpreted in modern way.
Hedi Slimane Hold the Show after Two Days
Saint Laurent show held on Monday with high media coverage as cameras ruled over the ground. Mr. Slimane who previously worked as photographer has taken significant approaches before the show like new name and logo of the house and based his studio in Los Angeles. Several journalists were not invited and many editors and stylists like from Karl Templer and Vogue were seated in third or fourth row who normally sit in the front.
Show was held in Black-Swathed Gallery and it was so dark that names on the seats were not properly visible. A list of designer tycoons was invited including Vivienne Westwood, Alber Elbaz, Marc Jacobs, Riccardo Tisci and Azzedine Alaia; some of them were also invited at Simons couture show. His show was more anticipated partially because he was out of the scene from runways for more than five years. The co-founder of Saint Laurent, Pierre Berge supported Hedi who is an iconic designer in fashion world.
His debut has more collection of long chic caftans, frilly bows, tiered skirts, peasant blouses and slimmed jackets. Retailers were very fervent after the show. However collection was not well received as it should, according to critics.
